Biography

About The HonorableJudge Del M. Mauhrine Brown

Judge Brown is a life-long resident of Hopewell, Virginia, where she attended all of the Hopewell Public Schools. After graduating from Hopewell High School, she attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where she interned at the Maryland General Assembly with the Maryland Women's Caucus and the National Organization for Women. Judge Brown also played in the University's marching and concert bands. She later attended the University of Maryland School of Law. During her third year, she taught a Politics and Law class at the University of Maryland.

After graduation, she worked at the University of Maryland Center for Political Leadership and the Afro American Studies Department, coordinating major research initiatives including the New Jersey Transit Authority Study focused on minority business participation. Under the mentorship of Dr. Samuel L. Myers Jr., she transitioned to the University of Minnesota Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice as Associate Director.

Returning to Virginia, Judge Brown served as an Assistant Professor of Business Law at Norfolk State University and later as a University Recruiter, traveling nationally to recruit high-achieving students into the Dozoretz National Institute for Mathematics and Applied Sciences (DNIMAS) which provided scholarships for gifted and high achieving students for a Bachelor of Science and admission into the Virginia Eastern Medical School. Judge Brown later entered private practice under the mentorship of Attorney Gerald Poindexter, Esq. and the Honorable Gammiel G. Poindexter, Judge of the 6th Judicial District, then served in the Office of the Public Defender in Portsmouth and Suffolk, respectively, before continuing in General Legal Practice.

She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a former Board Member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Richmond. Judge Brown is a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Prince George, Virginia. Her law office has supported students from Virginia State University Criminal Justice and Pre-law programs through internships.

Judge Brown is married to her husband Brett and is the proud mother of her son Bliss, an academic scholar and student-athlete at Frostburg State University who swims on the Men's Varsity Swim Team. She is also an animal lover who has cared for a variety of pets including dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and a goat.

Judge Del M. Mauhrine Brown's life and career reflect a deep commitment to service, education, justice, family, and community, and her investiture honors both her distinguished journey and the many lives she continues to impact.
